Heavy drinkers are at risk of developing a server form of withdrawals known as delirium tremens (DTs).
The symptoms of delirium tremens include:
- Seizures – these episodes tend to be of the tonic-clonic variety where the whole body shakes violently
- Confusion – most individuals who pass through alcohol withdrawal will experience some type of foggy thinking
- Agitation or increased excitement
- Hallucinations
- High states of anxiety
- Elevated pulse, blood pressure, and temperature
