One of the most heartbreaking things about spending a lot of time with people who are going through cancer treatment, as we at United Patients Group do, is seeing how much they struggle with the side effects of chemotherapy. Our desire to make life better for these patients has led us to explore alternatives that can be used alongside or instead of chemo. We recommend medical cannabis, of course, but several other alternative treatments are out there. Today, we want to share a homeopathic treatment for cancer that shows promise: salicinium.
In order to understand what salicinium does, you need to know how cancer cells operate. Normal cells grow, divide, and die when they’re no longer needed. Cancer
cells, however, have ways of cloaking themselves from the immune system so it doesn’t kill them off.
“Cancer cells are able to ignore signals that normally tell cells to stop dividing or that begin a process known as programmed cell death, or apoptosis, which the body uses to get rid of unneeded cells,” explains the American Cancer Society.
Cancer cells are also often able to evade the immune system, a network of organs, tissues, and specialized cells that protects the body from infections and other conditions. Although the immune system normally removes damaged or abnormal cells from the body, some cancer cells are able to “hide” from the immune system.
According to doctors who advocate its use, salicinium destroys the “cloak” that cancer cells use to evade the immune system. Reno Integrative Medical Center, a leading clinic for alternative cancer treatments, explains:
Salicinium is a natural plant based extract, a complexed sugar molecule that is harmless to normal cells in the body because they cannot absorb a “complex glycome”. Because this extract is a complexed molecule and not a “free” glucose, it has no impact on the patients’ blood sugar.
Why is this fact important? Because the cancer cells have receptors that will falsely interpret the presence of this molecule as a sugar (a fuel source).
Once the molecule enters the cancer cell a specific enzyme will split off a part called the benzaldyhide ring. This ring interferes with the energy production pathway in the cancer cell.
Cancer cells all produce an enzyme called Nagalase. This enzyme blocks the ability of certain immune cells to recognize the abnormal cells and destroy them. This provides safety or (cloaking) for the diseased cells. Salicinium inhibits the production of Nagalase while simultaneously stimulating the innate immune cells.
Unlike chemotherapy, salicinium does not harm healthy cells. It can be used in
conjunction with chemo, enabling a huge reduction of the needed chemo dose (just 10–15 percent of the standard dose, according to the Center). Salicinium is administered intravenously at first and then taken orally until the cancer is in remission.
This treatment is quite new—it was only patented in 2011—and it hasn’t undergone rigorous scientific study yet. The American Cancer Society doesn’t even mention salicinium on its website. But doctors who use it report remarkable results.
In her book Knockout: Interviews with Doctors Who Are Curing Cancer—And How to Prevent Getting It in the First Place, Suzanne Somers interviews Dr. James Forsythe of Century Wellness Clinic, an outspoken supporter of salicinium. He tells her, “I’ve been
doing studies on this now for over four years. We have 350 patients, all with stage IV cancers, and our responders are especially high in breast and prostate cancers, having over an 85 percent response in prostate cancer, stage IV, at four years out.”
Before we go declaring it to be a miracle cure, we’d like to see much larger, carefully controlled studies on salicinium and cancer. But if you’re looking for alternatives, this is one that you can explore and decide if it’s right for you.
