Happy August, everyone! As you continue to soak up the summer sun, let’s take a look back at big news that happened in the medical cannabis industry during the month of July.
The first half of 2013 was filled with changes, pushes for reform, support, legalization’s and new findings, and July headlines were probably the best reflection of that. The theme for industry coverage this month seemed to be the general acceptance of medical marijuana in many new circles, including the nation’s capital. Let’s take a look at the latest proponents of prohibiting prohibition (yes) and what’s in store for the future:
A 15-year struggle to legalize marijuana for medical uses in the nation’s capital ended on Monday evening with the first legal sale made at D.C.’s first dispensary, Capital City Care.
Vet Recommends Medical Marijuana for Pets in Pain
If you’re like us and consider pets to be wo(man’s) best friend, this news should come as no surprise. We love this growing trend in veterinary practices across the country and can’t help but get a little choked up when we hear one vet was “tired of euthanizing pets when [he] wasn’t doing everything [he] could to make their lives better.” Aww.
We mentioned 7-year-old Mykayla Comstock earlier this week, but we just can’t get over how uplifting her story is and the headlines she’s making. In this video, a host of HuffPost Live talks to Mykayla, her stepdad Brandon, Meghan Wilson (also mentioned in our last blog post), Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School Dr. Sharon Levy, and Resident Doctor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Dr. Sunil Aggerwal. This conversation offers great perspectives from professionals, parents and patients from all sides of the table.
Yes, you read that correctly. The study was not only conducted by the hugely anti-marijuana organization that does all those “Above the Influence” commercials, but it was about how parents felt about its legalization. AND IT WAS POSITIVE. Now if we could just have more scientific evidence to legitimize marijuana legalization. Oh wait…
There we go! (Also, how pretty does “with no side effects” sound? It’s like music to our ears.)
All in all July was a pretty lovable month for medical marijuana. From what we can tell, the acceptance is growing in all directions. Doctors, vets, parents, even the capital of this beautiful nation – more and more people are accepting medical marijuana into their lives as a viable treatment option for a range of symptoms.
