February 23, 2014  |  John Malanca

February 23, 2014 by John Malanca

Candies in coconut flakes, glass of milk and fresh coconut on daCoconut oil has been growing in popularity among various groups of people for a while now. It makes sense that the cannabis community decided to give it a go.

Coconut oil has been proven to have profound positive effects on one’s health. It is extremely versatile and very cost effective. A 15-ounce jar will run about $15.00 and you can turn that into baked goods, topicals, and capsules.

It is very convenient to use considering it remains in a solid state at room temperature. Coconut oil is high in essential fatty acids, which acts as a binding agent for the cannabis. It also contains large amounts of lauric acid, which is why coconut oil can combat viruses and bacteria. Lauric acid is one of the key ingredients in breast milk that keeps the immune system strong.

Coconut oil is a perfect replacement for butter and other types of oil typically used in thenutiva kitchen. It is a great substitute for butter when it comes to baked goods and that is why coconut oil quickly became popular among cannabis users. You can make loads of smoothies, soups, dressings, stir-fry’s, sauces, and baked-goods with the infused oil. It is also gluten free, dairy free, and vegan. If you’re not much of a chef, you can easily put the oil in capsules and let your body do the rest. Capsules are a great way to go because the liver immediately starts to process the infused oils once they are ingested.

The process of preparing your own cannabis infused coconut oil is actually quite simple, as shown in this step-by-step tutorial:

We all know that cannabis has amazing health benefits and when combined with coconut oil you’re creating a very powerful antidote.

coconut oilSome of the health benefits of coconut oil are as followed:

  • Kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi
  • Helps to regulate blood sugars
  • Can be used as a mild sunscreen (SPF 4)
  • Helps boost brain function
  • Boosts metabolism
  • Anti-inflammatory properties

And if you happen to get some gum stuck in your carpet, it can fix that too! Coconut oil actually has many accidental uses such as:

  • Makeup remover
  • Diaper cream
  • Toothpaste
  • Leave in conditioner
  • Insect repellant
  • and DON’T forget how wonderful it is for the skin!  Check out this article

All in all, coconut oil can be a great supplement in one’s diet. It is a very helpful tool that all types of people can use to aid in the healing of all types of ailments.

Hi. Thanks for posting this. I have my doctor’s recommendation and live in California. I have a scarring alopecia and have been treating, internally, with marijuana to deal with the external discomfort (itching, burning and stress of hair loss) to some effect. I’ve also used coconut oil for it’s soothing properties. I’ve tried using straight mj oil on my scalp but it didn’t help at all. I’ve also tried using a marijuana infused cream, bought at one of the marijuana pharmacies, but it was, I guess, too strong for me and caused me to sleep for many hours and I didn’t feel well at all. I want to try making my own oil, using “shake” for it’s less psychoactive properties. I was also using the cream on my shoulder for a terrible case of frozen shoulder but the side effects were too uncomfortable. You didn’t say if you were using a sativa or an indica for this recipe. Could you please elaborate? Thanks.

Ellen, a specific strain was left out since many have different preferences. I hear that the “knocked out” feeling does not agree with you. That being the case, you may want to stick to Sativa strains. When patients make their own oil sometimes it is a bit of trial and error until they get it just right. When you say “internally” do you mean edibles, oil or juicing. I ask this because juicing the raw plant can have remarkable affects while eliminating the “high”.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Hello Mike, Again, we are not doctors here at UPG but we currently are hearing of wonderful results with a company called Statewide Collective. You can find them online in California. They carry a full line of sprays that range from 24:1 CBD to THC to a 10:1 THC to CBD. These products are useful as you can choose one for day, and one for night. Of course the higher the THC the more of a psychoactive affect you will notice. Please note that these product are only available in California.

      Hi Marie,
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, it is still illegal to ship out of the country. If you have access to cannabis, it is quite easy to make coconut infused oil.
Let us know how it turns out.

Three years ago, after a prostate biopsy, I was given the diagnosis of aggressive Stage III adenocarcinoma. I didn’t know what to do. The urologist made appointments for me to start radiation, and maybe chemo. Then a friend told me cannabis cures cancer. It just so happened that the first human trials of cannabis treatment of astrocytomas (inoperable brain cancer), were published with encouraging results. So I decided; rather than die from the medical treatment, I would do the cannabis cure. Now… where to get some. There was no dispensary in the area, but a friend made me cannabis butter, so I took that, up to tolerance. In three months the primary cancer was gone, only minor metastatic lesions were left. At that point I found a supplier for Rick Simpson oil and killed off the metastases in the next three months. Now I just take a maintenance dose of locally produced hash oil that is 1:1 THC:CBD with about a 30% potency. This will certainly keep me clear of cancer, anywhere, for ever. My point in telling this story is the fact that in the face of advanced aggressive cancer, all I had was very weak cannabutter, but it was enough to eliminate the primary tumor. Now there are strains of 95% THC. But is this necessary? If you have cancer and want to pursue the cannabis treatment, any at all will be good. More important than extreme potency, is balance between THC and CBD. If you can get high potency, great. If not, common potencies will work perfectly. Finally, if you choose cannabinoid treatment, start small, then increase dosage as rapidly as tolerable. To kill cancer you have to hit it hard, be conscientious about your treatment. Cannabis does no harm to the body, it is a metabolic support for the immune system.

Thank you for sharing your successful story. We too strongly believe in this plants healing benefits and have witnessed many cases where lower doses have shown some remarkable results.

Great video. Thank you for sharing. Is this the oil that has all the health benefits? It seems so easy to make. Other posts and videos i have seen suggest everclear , alcohol etc.. so just wondering if what you made above is like the rso but just cooked with coconut oil ?

      Hi Annmarie,
Thank you for your inquiry. You’re asking about two separate products. This blog and video is discussing the benefits and ‘how to’ make coconut infused cannabis oil, which also has many healing qualities. Whereas, your question about Everclear, in many cases, this is used to make FECO (Full Extract Cannabis Oil), which is very similar to RSO.
      We hope this helps,

When I found out that I had cancer, I decided that I was going to make cancer the best thing that ever happened to me, not the worst. At 39

years old I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy. I’d been told the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes and

bloodstream, and I had a 49 percent survival rate. I was not about to accept those odds!
My husband, Michael, had lost his dad to colon cancer two years earlier and he was determined it wasn’t going to happen to me. He went

online and learned about how cannabis oil had save many lives, so we decided to try it. as you are reading this you will know that am cancer free.

Hello I am wondering if I will get the same healing benefits if I make my oil with coconut oil ,instead of isop ? I would rather go this way ,but if it wont heal cancer then I guess I cant ,But I don’t understand why it wouldn’t ,as its not the isop that is the meds its the cannabis. And what I have made with the coconut oil is really quite strong .Can you advise please x

      Hello Wendy,
The preferable extraction method is Everclear or CO2. Once you have amde the oil, mixing it with cocnut oil has wonderful healing benefits. Many people heat coconut oil with raw/dried cannabis to make capsules that are very beneficial as well.
      I hope this helps,

Hi … the thing to know is that infusing an oil with aged (or fresh raw) cannabis is not the same as FECO. It’s called Full Extract Cannabis Oil because it is actually made by extracting all the oils out of the whole Cannabis plant. It is it’s own oil without any need to add Coconut or Hemp or any oil. the only time you use other oils if you have buds or leaves and want to make an infused product. Oil carries the cannabinoids and does not deteriorate them, so you can take a Cannabis flower (bud) and cause some of the resins containing cannabinoids, to drain into the oil. This is a good product, but in no way similar to RSO/FECO which is the whole, unaltered, synergistic vitality of 99% of the cannabinoid rich resins and oils the plant has for you. It seems confusing, but one is a Full Plant Extract with nothing else in it and the other is an oil based product with some Cannabis in it. I hope this clears it up for you … pass it on!

        Stanlee,
I am so happy that you took the time to write this out. I treated my father with a cannabis capsule ifused with cocnut oil but when his story is retold, many say that he took a FECO capsule, totally untrue. My father recovered from stage 4 lung cancer with mets to the brain with 1/3 of a cocnut oil and raw cannabis capsule in late morning and one tiny drop of FECO oil 30 minutes before bed (the size of 1/2 grain of rice). This is all he ever took and has been in remission for 4 years now.
Thank you again for claifying the difference in the two products as they ARE totally different.

Hi there, thanks for posting such a clear to follow recipe. I am interested in making this for solely the health benefits, not to feel stoned – is this the preferred recipe or should i try to make FECO?

My mother suffers from lots of ailments including arthritis and gastric problems, i would love to help her out!

      Hello Kay,
For health and wellness you should not need FECO oil. You could use a tincture utilizing the many healthy and non psychactive componants of cannabis. Aunt Zelda’s Oils makes a wonderful health and welness oil-see link below. As for your mother, yes, she could use a high CBD FECO oil for her arthritis and Gastric problems. If you would like to discuss this further please feel free to schedule yourself in for a consultation. I have attached that link for you as well!

I have read some articles about people who were cured from brain tumors by taking canabis infused coconut oil capsules. There is plenty info online regarding dosage for canabis oil but I cannot find any on dasage recommended for the infused coconut oil. If I make it then heat the oil to liquefy it to fill capsules, how much is used per capsule? Do you need to build up the dosage as with the canabis oil?

I’ve alredy got him taking plain coconut oil as I suspect he has candida but I’m very interested in adding cannabis.I doubt he’ll want to take it if it makes him high though. Colleen,
The capsule that my father used did not make hm high as the cannabis in the coconut oil capsule was ‘raw” cannabis. Some epople make it with FECO oil-this would have some psychoactive effect. The high can be offset by using the suppository application although some believe that you can lose some of the medicinal value. My dad’s capsule was kept in the freezer to enable us to give him only 1/2 twice per day.

I have been on it for 6 months. She can’t give me how long I will have to be on it , it sounds like at least a year. Is that normal protocol.

It is infused in organic coconut oil. I started with 20 TCH, then to 34 THC, then to 40 % THC, then she reduced it to 30 percent thc.. This is for killing 4th stage cancer. I read that 30 percent is just maintenance level. Am I being given bad information.

      b,
Everybody responds differently to cannabis treatment. Some respond within a few months, others more. Additonally, each cancer is treated ddifferently so to comment on what is best for you would be guessing.
Maintenance ratios could be in the 30% range but again it depends on the condition and person.

      Here are a few tips:
-If you have an estrogen driven cancer many are seeing success with a 1;1 ratio
-If you have lung to brain or brain cancer-4:1 THC dominant is what many are seeing reduce the cancer.
-DO NOT buy a lot of oil upfront. It is very possible that that your protocol could change within the first two weeks as you won’t know how your body will respond to the oil.
-DO NOT pay thousands for oil-Depending on the cancer and your dosage, your costs could be $500 for 2 months. Some are charging $3500 to $8000-This is never needed.

      I hope this helps!

However, I’ve wondered if the shift might indicate that the brca was adapting and becoming more aggressive. I have a br nodule near the scar area which has grown from 2 ml, about 2 yr’s ago, to 4 mm . I’m considering an excision all biopsy. Thoughts? I’ve tried med cann in various forms and ratios. I’m not sure which works best tho did find that .5 oz of cBD tincture gave me a good nite’s sleep and helped pain. Your suggestions for brca, pain, sleep, liver toxicity. Certainly ,financially, I can’t take so much tincture a nite. Btw you are so on target with cautioning people re: the prohibitive costs all too many oilers are charging. It’s very cannaballistic! Do you suggest remaining on oil for one’s lifetime.? B

      June 9, 2015 at 8:20 am

      Barbara,

Thank you for your comments. It is suggested that the patient stay on a “maintenance dose” of cannabis tincture. This is very light, not psychoative, and much less expensive. Many suggest that cancer manifests in our body due to a insufficient endocannabinoid system. This system is lacking in cannabinoids. By taking a tincure with the proper ratios for your condition, you can maintain and feed your endocannabinoid system.

    Hi Matt,
I googled benefits of canna butter, I’m totally old school and didn’t know the new method of infusing with coconut oil, made sense though. I made it the old way with real butter. I helped a lady a few years back who was on “so called” death watch with hospice, the morphine wasn’t helping anymore. I made her butter she ate it on toast, we didn’t cook anything with it. Well long story short she lived another 2 years didn’t die from cancer, and all these people worrying about the high factor, Cooking cannabis for four hours pretty much kills the THC part of the high. Don’t know why but I know it still has healing factors. I grew up in a herbal house, Grandma treated with Hemp, so did mom. I didn’t know it was something people smoked until I was a teenager in the 70’s. LOL anyway now when I make butter for people I will use a double broiler, Thank You for your tutorial. It makes total sense I use Coconut oil for everything else. :) Continued Blessings Annette

Thanks.

    • UnitedPatientsGroup.com says

      March 23, 2014 at 2:31 pm

Ellen, a specific strain was left out since many have different preferences. I hear that the “knocked out” feeling does not agree with you. That being the case, you may want to stick to Sativa strains. When patients make their own oil sometimes it is a bit of trial and error until they get it just right. When you say “internally” do you mean edibles, oil or juicing. I ask this because juicing the raw plant can have remarkable affects while eliminating the “high”.

They carry a full line of sprays that range from 24:1 CBD to THC to a 10:1 THC to CBD. These products are useful as you can choose one for day, and one for night. Of course the higher the THC the more of a psychoactive affect you will notice. Please note that these product are only available in California.

Am on 4 th bout of brca. They’ve been ER+PR+HER2- however, in bout 3 HER ,according to FISH was equivacil . tHE UCSF bronc said its ” still neg”. B

      We hope this helps!

My husband had been diagnosed with adenocarcenoma the doctors are pushing him to agree to radiation and chemo. We would rather use a natural cure as we both believe that God has provided this. For him to get this treatment are we going to have to move to California or colorado?

      Frank,
Each cancer is treated with a different formulation. This is not a once size fits all protocol. It is very important to cisnult with a person who has a medical background to understand which formulation is best for you.

I have beeb diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer It’s one of the myeloprolifrative neoplasm classification. I make and use my canna oil as a treatment for the pain and side effects of the disease. It helps lower blood pressure which controls many symptom related issues. my bone marrow never stops making all types of blood even if it isn’t needed it’s stuck in the on position 24/7 . canna oils help with mood and atitude and just overall feeling better. Something most cancer patients are well aware of, feeling good is not as easy as it used to be. My oncologist and VA doctors have been suprised with some of my blood numbers and advised me to keep it up. will see in time I guess its considered incurable at present

can this recipe be used for cannabis capsules, will the mixture soften at room temp so it can be put into capsules. I currently purchase the cannabis capsules for my neuropathy but could save money making my own.

    Hi Matt,
I googled benefits of canna butter, I’m totally old school and didn’t know the new method of infusing with coconut oil, made sense though.

Hi I’ve been using cbd oil mixed with coconut oil to treat my psoriasis. It’s the only thing that actually works! I place the jar with the coconut in a pot with water, slowly heat then add the cbd till mixed. Question is this the best way to infuse the 2, what are potential ways I can screw things up, is there any way to guage dosage i.e how much coconut to cbd I should mix?

How long would you say the cbd oil is good for ? And can it be stored like regular coconut oil, or is a different method of storing recommended for longevity of the cbd?

    • Corinne Malanca says

      June 26, 2016 at 5:39 pm

      Serena,
It is recommended to store any cannabis medicine in a cool place out of the sun. Most store it in a cupboard if the home is not hot due to the weather.

So i am using organic whole plant feco to infuse coconut oil. I’m using feco because it is more cost effective than infusing with plant material. i get labs on the product for purity & accurate dosing. I am wondering if it is a problem or not that some of the feco settles on the bottom of jar as it sits over time? I’ve tried warming oil but it doesn’t dissolve. Would you suggest I add in Lecithin to the warm coconut oil before adding in feco? Thanks for you help!
