It’s hard to believe that 2015 is about to come to a close. With the holidays upon us, it’s easy to get swept up in the hustle and bustle of it all – but at United Patients Group, we’re hoping to take some time over the next couple of weeks to truly reflect and be grateful for the tremendous year it has been.
Change can sometimes be stressful, and working toward the goal of dismantling the myths and misinformation of medical cannabis is something that we strive for 24/7. But change can also be exhilarating, particularly when the work has the opportunity to not only help thousands upon thousands of individuals daily, but to truly make a shift in the paradigm of healthcare for future generations to come.
United Patients Group has been helping to provide up-to-the-minute access to resources and reliable, relevant information to medical cannabis patients (and those that care for them) for nearly five years. 2015 was the year we realized that in order to truly drive change, we would need to expand our services and take a leadership position by spearheading funding for research and clinical trials, along with building out education forums, training and educational programs for healthcare providers, mental health professionals, nurse practitioners and others in the medical cannabis field. The thousands of people we have met, counseled, listened to, and advocated for over these last several years made the decision to launch our non-profit an easy one.
On December 1st, we embarked on our first-ever capital campaign by participating in Giving Tuesday – a global, philanthropic event that focuses on one simple mission: giving back. We asked you to consider helping us make an impact that could affect millions of lives for generations to come – and we were astounded at the overwhelming response and genuine support by so many of you.
As we enter the height of the holiday season, we also enter the home-stretch of our Giving Tuesday campaign – and we are asking you to consider including United Patients Group in your gift-giving this year. Also, if you’re considering an end of the year charitable donation, donating to United Patients Group is a quick way to increase your tax benefit for 2015, while making a significant impact for 2016.
As our work continued to expand from the humble beginnings of providing information for patients and others seeking insight and guidance on medical cannabis, the effort grew to what it is today – a website bursting at the seams, with thousands of pages of information, hundreds of consultations per year to people desperate for credible guidance and advice for themselves or their loved ones, and a global call for education and information. We even held our first conference and brought together speakers, educators and patients – all eager to share their knowledge, or just their very-human and touching stories.
As 2016 draws near, we remain focused on that work.
How can you be a part of it? Make a gift. UPG is trying to reach our Giving Tuesday goal of raising $25k by December 31st – and with your donation – no matter how small, we’re closer than ever.
With your generous donation, the first tangible benefit will be the ability to finalize plans to bring together some of the world’s leading researchers, medical professionals and advocates in the medical cannabis industry at our second-annual conference, currently planned for May 21st and 22nd 2016 at Dominican University.
This holiday season, our hearts are full of excitement and hope of all that we can accomplish together, and hope you will consider helping us take that first step of 2016. Happy Holidays!
