Did you know that there are over 18 ways to consume medical cannabis? It is a common misconception that smoking marijuana is the only way to enjoy its effects; in fact, smoking could be considered one of the least efficient methods. Not that smoking is a bad way of getting “high” by any means, but it’s important to know that you have many options when it comes to cannabis.
Vaporization, edibles and beverages are all possible ways to consume cannabis, each has its benefits and the effects can be subtly different depending on which method you choose.
Vaporizing has grown in popularity in recent years for many reasons, but two stand tall above the rest: it’s a healthier alternative to smoking, and if used properly it’s far more efficient.
A study published in the Journal of Cannabis Therapeutics stated: “…the vapor was remarkably clean, consisting 95% of THC with traces of cannabinol (CBN)…” (CANORML). This means that vaporization delivers more of the active medical ingredient in marijuana without many of the toxins ingested while smoking. Due to this, the high from vaporizing cannabis can be described as more clear-headed and less drowsy.
Cooking with cannabis is another option and can result in some delicious and potent medicinal products – practically any type of baked good, along with other delights like candy and ice cream. The psychoactive effects can be delayed up to an hour from consumption but many people prefer edibles to smoking as it provides a full body high. Edible products also have the benefit of being very convenient, all you need to do is grab a cookie to go.
If baked goods aren’t your cup of tea, well you can just have a cup of tea instead! There are various beverages available made with the active medicinal ingredient of marijuana. Milk is a great option and tastes delicious on its own or in cereal. It can be a refreshing way to get the effects of cannabis and the high/psycho-active effect is very similar to that of edibles.
There are also other methods like ingestible capsules, sprays and a marijuana-based tincture. These are easy to use and give many people, especially the elderly, an option to get medicated with as little hindrance as possible.
As you can see, there are many, many options when it comes to consuming cannabis. There is no one “best way”, it boils down to personal preference and testing various methods is the best way to find out what’s right for you.
Whichever form of consumption you decide on, please educate yourself prior for a safe experience.
